Which god?
How do you pick?
How is the one you picked not explained mostly by your cultural background?

[…] if a god requires no creator, then why would the universe?

Q: Why is there evil in the world?
A: Because there’s free will.
Q: Does evil exist in heaven?
A: No.
Q: Is there free will in heaven?
(kam von woanders, passt hier aber gut rein)

If you don’t buy [the bible’s] claims of divinity it’s just another random mythological text – a smattering of tangential history and a whole lot of fanciful tales. And to paraphrase Hitchens, even if you *did* grant the actual historical accuracy of every actual events presented therein you still wouldn’t have proof of any god, much less any particular god. You would have some weird crap happening in history that mysteriously tapered off as our ability to accurately record and spread information grew.

The bible holds exactly as much proof for god existing as the invisible purple dragon story, the teapot orbiting past Jupiter story, or the unicorn in my bathroom story, regardless of the accuracy of any particular historical happenings contained within.
I can keep pulling out examples, like I said, I’ve done this a lot… Spider-Man comics take place in a real place: New York City. They often reference and contain historically accurate people and events: the events of 911, several presidents have made shown up, hurricane Sandy, various waves of crime and drug addictions, etc. etc. etc. Someone looking back at these two or three thousand years from now could cross-reference all those events and make the same claims you’re attempting to make – there are some historically supported events presented within it’s pages. That doesn’t make Spider-Man non-fiction.

    1. If God is unable to prevent evil, then he is not all-powerful.
    2. If God is not willing to prevent evil, then he is not all-good.
    3. If God is both willing and able to prevent evil, then why does evil exist?
    4. If God is neither willing nor able, then why call him God?

You plan a trip to europe and get to choose between two planes. One has undergone the usual routine of maintenance, the other one has just been prayed for (by your choice of believer, even yourself if you wish) for the last six month. Which one do you board?
